Yesterday morning Sophia asked me if she could watch TV 5 minutes after getting out of bed. I told her in the most loving way I could to think of something else to do that does not involve any screen. She pouted a bit and asked me why I check my phone the first moment I wake up and she can’t?
Oh boy! I was flabbergasted for a few minutes, desperately fumbling for an acceptable and understandable excuse for my cheeky 7 yo. In a small, meek voice (not very convincing really) I told her I am checking if there is something urgent I need to do for work. Yeah right!
I remember a book I read before called The Miracle Morning for Parents and Families. I quickly browsed and am reminded of their life SAVERS morning ritual.
I started practicing after reading, but I have not gotten around to sticking with it. I will read the book again and incorporate these habits into our mornings. I do all already, but in different times of the day. Maybe if I am reminded of the importance of doing these things in the morning, I will try again. We will see what works for us.
One thing Sophia and I do together every morning is affirmation. Included in my June challenge (https://toabettersarahraisingsophia.wordpress.com/2021/06/04/june-1-challenge/), instead of looking in the mirror and telling ourselves we love ourselves, one morning I told her to look in my eyes and asked if she could see herself. I then told her to give it a try and say “I love you Sophia”. I did the same and then I tell her I love her and she tells me she loves me. We love doing it!
I encourage you to give affirmation a try! If anything, it is undoubtedly nice to hear that you are loved, and who says it has to come from someone else? Self-love, anyone? Added bonus if in morning to start your day right. Oh! I will include in my morning ritual randomly texting at least 5 people when I wake up that I love them and appreciate them. Who knows I might luckily message someone who needs it the most eh? I would definitely be in a more positive mood if I am at the receiving end. Maybe I should start a chain message or something.
“I love you and I appreciate you a lot. ❤ Send this to 5 people including the one who sent it to you. Do this every morning for the rest of your life and feel good every day, spreading love and kindness to the people in your life, and beyond.” Maybe I should do this! I will do this! Will start tomorrow. I wonder if it will be totally inappropriate to include a link to my blog. Hahaha.
Enough for today. Have a great morning, universe!
How do you start your day?
