The Gift Of A Sweet Daughter

Lately I have been busy again. What with having to deploy my bombers to mine me bcoins every hour and a half at least, to answering ten guests’ questions simultaneously, to assisting tenants until late at night, etc. I am not complaining, in fact, I have missed this kind of fast-paced days. And not surprisingly, the most pleasure I still get is from the interaction with all sorts of people! I suppose after over 20 months of lockdown, I still got it!

Tonight, I had to endorse a guest down at the lobby at 10pm, and Sophia was wide awake. I told her I was going down and that she should sleep. When I got back, she was crying. I was tired and sleepy and (not an excuse however) I was disheartened that she was (and still is now at 11:24pm) still awake! If I did not remind myself to keep my cool, I knew I would have made her cry harder.

After taking several deep breath, I calmly asked her what was wrong. She kept on crying (and I still got lots to do) so I followed up with how did she feel, sad, scared, mad? Her answer took me by surprise. She said hugging the pillow is not the same as cuddling with my mommy.

I realized everytime Sophia seems to be not listening to me, I need to remind myself that she is not doing it to annoy me. Had I not asked, tonight would not have ended good for both of us, me feeling frustrated and peeved, her feeling dejected and misunderstood. Like in any human relationship, understanding each other makes life a little bit sweeter, and sometimes all we need to do is ask.

Have you tried asking someone how he or she feels before reacting?

I may have a million things to do, but how can I resist this sweet little girl.
