The Gift Of A New Phone

The last time I bought a new phone was July 2018, after dropping my Mi phone (which I got as a gift from a friend) while walking (I wish I can say not shamefully) home with a hangover. I totally blame an Irish (not to generalize, but this one really does drink a lot) guy named Mark.

On the one hand, I am not really very particular with gadgets. For me, as long as they serve their purpose, I do not complain. In short, the cheaper the better. On the other hand, I also believe that (not all the time) there is a reason why something is expensive. I mean, given the choice between buying something five times more expensive that lasts for years and something cheap that is disposable, I would definitely go for the former.

I have not explored the phone yet, but I’m sure (at least I hope so) it is worth it. Like the last time, there was a 5% discount for Citibank credit cards and free charger and 2k pesos (40 usd) voucher. This time, I get a Galaxy Buds2 (which I am considering selling), too!

Since I do not need a case, I asked if I can use the voucher to buy a phone. I thought maybe I can get Sophia her first. Technically, I did not have any Christmas present for her. When she needed an iPad for school (more like for YouTube really), I asked her to use our old mini and will get her a new one on Christmas. But I took advantage of a PowerMac sale last August. When she wanted a piano, again I asked her to use her cute little pink toy one and I will get her a real one on Christmas. Again, I took advantage of Shopee’s 11.11 sale. I am seriously starting to think these marketing campaigns do get through to me, after all!

I comforted myself with the thought that I will eventually get her one anyway, and the voucher was valid only on the day of purchase, and instead of wasting it on an accessory that I do not need, at least I got her phone 28% less than retail price! To make up for it, I created a bombcrypto account for her, gave her two heroes (which she minted herself and got commons) and told her to make money. Next time we go to the mall to buy stuff, we’ll get it from there.

Sophia was quite happy with her present. I distinctly told her not to expect anything this Christmas, so she was really surprised (I did surprise myself too, to be honest). I hope she makes good use of it. To the one who has gifted me with this new phone, thank you very much! I really appreciate you. It is not the price, but the thought that touched me more.

What Christmas present do you cherish most?

Thank you!
