Sophia Appreciates

Written January 15, 2021:

My dear Sophia, it is such a joy to be your mother. One of the many things I love about you, and I hope will never change, is the way you appreciate every little thing! A couple of days ago, I finally bought scrunchies because the one (yes, one) I am using is so stretched out already. You saw them (I got 3 because discounted, and I’m not talking about 1 for 10 and 3 for 30 lol!) and immediately thanked me for it, with a big big smile on your face!

Keep it up, Anak, for when you grow up, it will not always be diamond rings, or Bali trips, or ayuda during a pandemic that you will remember. It is also the countless 2 dollar parathas, the sundae cones from McDonald’s (especially after a good cry) and yes, hair ties. It may sound like a cliché, but it really is the thought that counts. Don’t forget to express gratitude about seemingly trivial things, it will make your life so much more fulfilling, and it makes the other person feel appreciated.

Having a grateful heart and being vocal about it also makes the other person wants to give you more. It sure does make it a lot easier for me when you ask for a bit more expensive stuff, for I know you appreciate a candy that costs ten cents the same way as a 300 dollars Switch.

PS. The hair ties that I bought is good for 2 years, don’t lose them. 🤣

Update: like my relationship with the man who once gave me hair ties too, one day (not night, like the song he sang) in Bangkok and all the other small things, the hair ties did not last.
